Onward to Grand Rapids! Our coding classes are traveling to West Michigan

Grand Circus is traveling to Grand Rapids

Curious about our continued expansion? We have an updated blog on plans for 2017!

Grand Circus is taking our show on the road…to Grand Rapids! We’ll be hosting our first bootcamp starting late October in the city and are exciting to partner with Start Garden on our first open house and Intro to Coding Workshop on August 31. (Updated Sept. 2016: Thank you to everyone who attended our first-ever Grand Rapids workshop! We had a blast. Still interested in learning code? Join us December 5 at Spectrum Health for our next *free* Intro to Coding Workshop in Grand Rapids. RSVP!)

“We continue to see the need for developers increase throughout Michigan, and we’re excited to bring our .NET (C#) coding bootcamp to Grand Rapids,” said Damien Rocchi, CEO of Grand Circus. “By 2020, there will be an estimated 1 million unfilled computer-science jobs. It’s important that qualified training institutes, like Grand Circus, expand to new cities to alleviate this skills gap.”

The .NET Bootcamp will begin October 24 and is a full-time, 10-week program (the first two weeks of this are prework, which is done at home). Our .NET (C#) Developer Bootcamp will introduce you to the fundamentals of enterprise development (.NET), the use of Visual Studio, methods using SQL databases, and how to design and deploy object-oriented applications. (Update: Our next Grand Rapids .NET(C#) starts March 20. Applications close 2/24.)

We will cover the core software development skills that all .NET based web developers need. Units are divided by tiers and cover core server-side business logic and client side programming, and similar server side programming and persistence. To provide sufficient depth, concepts are taught using one of the most popular tools for a given tier, with an overview of other similar tools that are also popular in today’s job market.

“It’s great to already have alliances with some amazing companies in west Michigan to help support our expansion. Start Garden’s mission is very similar to ours in supporting the entrepreneurial community; we’re looking forward to hosting our first Grand Rapids workshop and info session at their location,” Rocchi continued.

Start Garden is a local startup accelerator located in downtown Grand Rapids. The company’s goal: “to be an accessible destination for entrepreneurs and idea people.” Start Garden started in 2012 by launching a $15,000,000 fund to rapidly accelerate experimentation, risk-taking and investment into early stage startups. We’re excited to be using such a great space for our Grand Rapids launch!

Job Ready

Grand Circus bootcamps come not only with technical training, but also job readiness support. Soft skills training is integrated throughout the program, including resume building, interview preparation, and mock interviews. We’re excited about our growing network of employers on the west side of Michigan and know that .NET is a valuable skill that is readily needed.

  1. Robert Freihaut says:

What type of background do you need for the coding bootcamp?

    1. We’ve seen successful alumni come from a wide range of backgrounds, including retail, nursing, accounting and beyond. It’s typically more important that the student is dedicated, passionate and ready to learn in an intensive environment than to have the a specific background. One myth is that you need to have a strong background in math. Another is that a computer science degree is required to earn a career in tech. Our classes are built to teach students both the technical and soft skills that employers are looking for – no matter what industry / education you were a part of previously.

Our most successful students typically start with some self-led online tutorials to get more comfortable with programming. Free Code Camp and Treehouse are two that we love. Additionally, we offer free intro to coding workshops every month so you can get a feel for the classroom setting. You can find that schedule here: grandcircus.co/free-coding-classes/
