Front-End Part-Time Bootcamp

Our Front-End Part-Time Bootcamp Runs three evenings a week plus Saturdays.

We get it. You’re busy and you can’t give up your day job. That’s why we created our Front-End Part-Time bootcamp. We deliver concise, accessible and directly applicable training in multiple short sessions over the course of 10 weeks of on-site education. This coupled with two weeks of mandatory pre-work makes this a 12-week program.

You'll learn to code with JavaScript (or JS), a dynamic programming language that’s most often used to create interactivity in web pages. JavaScript supports object-oriented programming and is highly adaptable. It’s also used in non-browser environments like cars and microwaves. Classes are hosted in the evening and on weekend.

What will I learn?

During this Front-End web development course, you’ll train with a whole host of programming languages and skills – in addition to JavaScript – as you work your way through every level of a web application, from the front-end to the server-side code.

During this course, the concepts we cover include:

  • HTML5 / CSS3
  • JavaScript
  • jQuery
  • AngularJS
  • Node.js / Express
  • PostgreSQL
  • Pair Programming

Before you start the bootcamp classroom sessions, you’ll complete mandatory at-home pre-work. This work provides the foundation for the bootcamp lessons and covers fundamentals that all successful developers need to know.

Once you start classroom sessions, you’ll be on-site at Grand Circus in Detroit, Tues – Wed – Thurs, 6:30pm – 9:30pm and Sat, 9am – 5pm. We love to start on time, so please plan to get here a few minutes early.

"The value of a Grand Circus bootcamp goes beyond the practical coding skills. I would recommend it for anyone who is interested in increasing their technical skills as well as their understanding of the technology career marketplace."

Frequently Asked Questions

What are you looking for in a candidate?

It’s best if our students to come to us with some, but not a ton, of programming experience. Many of our students have dabbled in code through online tutorials and courses through Codecademy or Udacity. If you’re smart, tenacious, resourceful and hardworking, you’ll be ready for a bootcamp. We want candidates that are self-motivated and committed to the Grand Circus program. Learning any new skill can become frustrating, so it’s important to see this opportunity as a welcome challenge, rather than a stress-inducing problem.

Do I need strong computer skills?

Students should have a basic understanding of computers such as creating files, folders, organization and a working knowledge of using the computer. The ability to install programs on your computer is also important. We have also found that our strongest students have some type of basic understanding of programming languages. To get started, we recommend checking out our free Intro to Coding workshop.

Do I need to have a bachelor’s degree?

A bachelor’s degree is not required to get into our coding bootcamps. We’ve had many students without degrees become very successful and find great jobs that they love. However, it’s important to note that some jobs in the tech industry will require a four-year degree of some kind.

What do I need to bring to bootcamp?

We recommend bringing your own laptop, though Grand Circus also has a limited number of laptops that students can borrow during the course.

What happens after bootcamp is over?

We have strong relationships with companies that are enthusiastic about hiring our entry-level developers and allowing them to grow within their organizations.Once you graduate from a Grand Circus bootcamp, you’ll gain access to our job placement services and our networking events. We also integrate job readiness and soft skills training (on topics like communication and teamwork) into our bootcamps so that our students are ready to interview successfully, once the bootcamp ends.

Can I get a job out of state with a certificate of completion from Grand Circus?

Yes! We’ve had several students get their first entry-level tech jobs outside of Michigan.

How is the part-time program different than your full-time Front-End coding bootcamp?

The technical curriculum between these two programs is the same. Students will walk away with the skills necessary to build a fully functional application, with live code to share with prospective employers and a final project that has been built throughout the coding bootcamp. The main differentiator between these programs is that our Front-End Part-Time program does not include Job Assistance, meaning we do not provide soft skills training in resume building, mock interviews and concepts necessary throughout the job hunt.
