Diversity in the workplace is a must. Having a mix of culture, background and race all under the same roof is an opportunity for creativity, collaboration and improves the overall health of your company. This definitely isn’t a new concept, so why is it that on the national level underrepresented minorities hold only 10% of Software Development roles?
The National Institutes of Health identifies underrepresented minorities as Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders. In Detroit, the Latino/Hispanic and Black population make up 88% of citizens. At Grand Circus, we believe the tech industry should reflect the diversity of our community.
With Detroit’s growing tech industry, employers have an amazing opportunity to become a front-runner in breaking the status quo for the lack of diversity we have seen in places like Silicon Valley, New York, Chicago and beyond. At Grand Circus, we embrace diversity and are working as a support system to close the bridge for underrepresented minorities in tech.
